New Lower Price Liquidation
Rover 1650 (1 port) and 2650 (2-port) are bus-powered 50 meter Cat 5 USB 1.1 extender systems. When plugged into a standard USB port that provides 500mA as per the USB specification, the extender system draws about 200mA of power leaving about 300mA for USB devices that rely on power from the PC instead of a separate power adapter. Most USB devices draw less than 300mA. It is a good low-end extender system that takes advantage of the timing allowance within the USB specification, providing USB extension up to 50 meters. Note that a hub can be added but the distance will be reduced by 10 meters for every hub added. The luxury of the first-generation ExtremeUSB 1.1 compliant extender systems to be powered from either end was possible due to low band-width requirements (low speed 1.5Mbps and full speed 12Mbps) versus the new USB 2.0 technology at 480Mbps which requires more power to deliver the much higher throughput.
